Free Plug - For Martha Stewart's Blog
Okay, maybe I crossed over - or ventured o'er to the dark side..but somehow I found myself visiting Martha Stewart's Blog. Ding, ding, ding!! Oh, I know how I got there - I was doing some research on the US Coast Guard and ran into her blog post about her recent rendezvous with the USCG on a recent boating trip. Which reminded me of...
Our Own Encounter with the USCG
The story reminded me of a couple years ago - our own encounter with the 'bunch of good looking' guards just 'doing their duty' and pulling us over while we were in our little boat on the Long Island Sound. We went from East Haven to New Haven for 'cocktails' at Rusty Scupper (photo) in calm waters but 'attempted to get back on the same little dinghy in a different sea. We had no life jackets , no registration (new boat), no ID's, no extra gass - nothing but soaking wet clothes and a hand pump. Not very smart! Our 'men' (two) were told to dock at the nearest shore and the 'women' were taken on board. No way was I as organized as Martha. Our camera's were ziplocked - our phone's were soaked, and buzzing. My sister in law (the braver of the two of us) swam to her home to take the van and
pick up the guys. I dared not swim in the dark water - so I got taken to the 'big house'.
When we got to the USCG office what did I ask them? Naturally, "do you have any promotional souvenirs"?
We are headed back for the same waters... here's The Deck waiting for us. I miss it and can't wait to get back.
