It's What I Like About You, Tervis

Look, ma!  Still no scratches!!

I've had my double wall Tervis tumblers for a while now testing it, abusing it and comparing it to all my other 'glasses'' here at home, especially during (and in spite of) the BPA controversy.  I had contacted the company for their stance on the subject and have published their response in a previous entry. I must say, though, that this tumbler is amazingly DURABLE.  You just can't scratch this baby..and if you ever do, they'll replace it, for free.

I have dropped my tumbler (and cup) many times, run it in a dishwasher, thrown it in my backpack and car - and it is still clear and unscathed.  It is made in the USA and has a lifetime warranty. I especially trust the manufacturer who has been in the business for a very long time.  I know my source.

This is my Go-To glass.  It's the first thing I grab when I'm home and need a cold drink. For some reason, I like the 'crispy' cold iced tea or water I get from it.  I've attached a close up picture of one of our tumblers so you can see up close how clear it is, despite numerous bouts with blunt (and sometimes sharp) objects.  Scratch free, clear as glass, unbreakable.

Many of you are contemplating Bishpenol A these days and have checked out our comments on Tervis and BPA. I have spoken to a lot of people who have just disposed of everything with a Recycle #7 on the bottom on all the plastic containers they have at home.  I can't really tell people what to do and I myself am a cautious person.  As a business, we have all kinds of polycarbonate bottles available but we will NOT sell them. We've made that decision a while ago.

But Tervis is an obvious exception.  I don't use it for hot beverages but for cold and iced cold and especially for outdoor picnics or parties - they're fabulous.

NOTE: There is no recycle code on the bottom of Tervis tumblers.  The bottom states that the tumbler/glass/mug is dishwasher safe and has a lifetime warranty.

A Word About Tervis Tumbler

Everyday, people make it  to our site because it comes up when you Google Tervis Tumbler and BPA.  I've posted a few articles about this but I believe I need to be more specific for those of you trying to decide if this is the right tumbler for you.

Tervis has been around since 1946. They have survived the test of time because of the exceptional product they have been making and continue to manufacture in Florida - yes, the good old USA. These tumblers are virtually indestructible - trust me...I've tried to scratch mine and can't.  They are made of exceptionally high grade polycarbonate and are 100% replaceable.  This means that you don't throw them away - ever.  The manufacturer will replace your tumbler should you ever have a problem with it.

I know that you are all concerned about BPA leaching from polycarbonate bottles / tumblers - even while deemed safe the FDA.  BPA is leached when the polycarbonate material is  scratched or damaged by normal wear and tear and boiled.  If you can't scratch a product by normal wear and tear....well, draw the conclusion.

Tervis tumbler sells direct to the consumers.  They also sell through distributors like us who are more closely connected to  special corporate markets and clients like you.    We are providing you with this product review because of the many website hits we get every day.

We've had our sample that we tested for a while now.  It continues to be my favorite go-to tumbler for water at home, or for juice. As far as we are concerned, this is more green than some other products in the sense that it will never make it to the dumpster or any landfill, for that matter.

Our absolute main concern about selling drinking bottles and tumblers are mostly because the industry (the promotional product industry) is inundated by overseas manufacturers who cannot  be or are not regulated for one reason or another.  Webbmar  will only sell from the top suppliers (4 star rated or more) and only after we have seen the product ourselves.   If you are in the market for the cheapest promotional bottle for imprinting - just for price, there may be others who will best serve your needs.

Client's Review : Stainless Steel Tumbler

A client of ours has rave reviews for this tumber which features an acrylic exterior with 18/8 stainless steel interior. Available in fun candy colors, it comes with a thumb-slide closure for easy drinking. A non-slip base pad makes allows for a good grip on a table top, in a desk office or conference room.

We have featured BPA free safe water bottles.  Now this product is for coffee lovers. The stainless steel interior will keep your beverage hot much longer than the acrylic or plastic lined tumblers.   This bottle is safe for hot beverages, coffee or tea.

In my humble opinion:

We've been getting a lot of hits from folks who have Googled "TERVIS TUMBLER and BPA" and have been led to our blog.  We certainly understand the confusion about BPA that's in the news, what's safe and what's a person to do...more importantly, what to believe these days.  Here are a few facts.

• TERVIS TUMBLER is made from high grade polycarbonate material. It looks like glass, it's apparently shatterproof and with it's 'double wall insulation', keeps my cold drink cold. Personally, I kind of like it a lot. The company states that the product is safe for microwave and top rack dishwasher, bit I am using it for cold drinks only. 
• This is the same material used for bullet proof vests.  [figure that for product durability]. I feel like a knight in shining armour when I'm holding my glass!
• Bisphenol A (BPA) is an industrial chemical used to make polycarbonate plastic resins.  CLICK HERE BPA.Org for more on Bisphenol-A. As you will see, this article is written by a BPA organization. PlasticsInfo.Org  has it's own data. On the other side of the spectrum are consumer awareness groups.  READ The Green Guide for an opinion.
• From all we have read, if polycarbonate drinking bottles are used for cold (cool) drinking water at home under normal use and regular washing, the product is safe (follow directions for microwaving. To be honest, Tervis tumbler is actually a spectacular product.
• The issue with BPA occurs when polycarbonate bottles are heated and some chemicals are said to leach into the liquid.  I therefore might think twice about baby bottles just to be on the safe side. Tervis Tumbler does not make product for babies as far as I know. 
• The bottom line is - you make the informed decision.

Plastic, aluminum and teflon-coated food-touching products have all been given a second look in the all too recent past.  Consumer products are marketed as FOOD SAFE, LEAD FREE, NON TOXIC precisely because people worry about what's in everything these days, and what they may be ingesting. But who's behind a product?  The big honcho corporations are lobbying Washington, the FDA sometimes is reactive, versus proactive.  Be wary of some imported products with SAFETY labels that come from some forsaken location in Timbukthree, if you can read the label.  Bottles with Numbers 3,6 and 7 are not recommended for use. So..I'm in search of cool drinkware for a company and came across this supplier of really top of the line drinkware.  This vacuum flask on the left is a departure from the ordinary 'flask' and is really trendy!  Comes in variety of color.  I love it, and it's not plastic! Safe Water Bottle Alternatives

I'm not sure what to think of these days anymore.  As a 'green' supplier, I'd like to encourage my client to help rid our landfills of the disposable drinking water that has made life so convenient.  Re-using?  Great idea - and we have lots of drinking water bottles available that are made of polycarbonate, PETE or Nalgene.  We encourage everyone to make informed decisions.

I learned a few important things that I'd like to pass on.

Polycarbonate and Nalgene?   First, you need to do your own due diligence research and know what these are. They are all sturdy and can be re-used. A 'plastic' bottle is not a generic term anymore. Not since the BPA advisory. Not since they warn consumers about chemicals 'leaching' from beverage containers. Study shows these are generally safe products as long as they are not used to transport hot beverage or be exposed to heat (which enables chemicals to break down). 

Is there a safe alternative? You won't have to worry about with stainless steel bottles. Here are a few alternatives for you, including Foogo (tm) by Thermos. You won't even have to give up color or style. It's clear that while we try and clean up the landfill, we should not do it at our own bodies' expense.

As distributors, we find it our responsibility to keep informed with current consumer safety advisories and  know what our products are made of.  We want our clients and their customers happy.  We want them to love your gift  and when you tell them that your gifts are safe, they will be extremely pleased.
