In January, when we were in Vegas for a convention, we happened to find out that a couple of the presidential candidates would be in town - and not far from where we were. Since campaign collateral just happened to be one of the things we did for a living, we decided to check out the closest rally to where we were - the rally of Senator Obama in Rancho High School. Of course, we went with American flags and stickers to hand out (freebies from our convention) and passed them out to some folks waiting in line who were more than happy to oblige.
A note to the reading public: We will keep our politics to ourselves. Thank you.
A few days after we arrived, we submitted this picture, one of a bunch that we took, to the LA Times newspaper (copyrights belong to us). It's been several weeks now since we did sent it but we still continue to receive email because people are voting it as Best Picture. So ... we're sharing it here, with you.
To me, seeing this child holding up this sign was rather thought provoking. His proud father was standing a little bit behind him. It was a poignant moment and I just clicked. He didn't want to sit, he wanted to hold up the sign for all of us to see. As you can tell, this sign is quite familiar...it's on the news almost every day. [okay, i won't get into the promo side of the sign].
I had originally posted this picture with another blog entry but decided at the time not to publish it. It had nothing to do with our work. We, like this child, were at the same event, at the same location and moment in history..us for a different reason than his.
While we will never know this child, we know that we will soon be voting for his future and that of many in his generation. We hope, that by sharing this picture and though we digress from the reason(s) for our blog, we can impart to our readers that our right to vote is something we should never take for granted.
Our blog includes a button to Register to Vote. We've made it easy for you. Whatever your belief...please take part in the process. This child could have held up any sign. His father said he explained why they were attending the rally. He may not have fully understood why he was there. But in a few years, he might realize that he was part of history. Because we were.
PEACE to all the vehicles of faith, hope and action.
