The Best Promotional Products for 2008

Belmont Stakes - And No CABLE!!

Okay, so it's Saturday, the last of the Triple Crown and I'm making a party out of it. We have our chicken wings broasting (yes..I said broasting - bake/roasting in a turbo oven).  We've got everything set and ready to go. BUT NO CABLE!   

I made a frantic call to Comcast - so we'll see what happens. This just sounds like a Murphy's Law kind of thing. And wouldn't you know it, it's a weekend. It's like having a Superbowl party and no broadcast. Oh no!

Well, at least there's a backup plant - we may have to run over to Jot's  at The Englander Pub where they have tons of tv's and satellite reception!  Argghhh, sometimes I wish I had the Dish!!

UPDATE:  4:45pm -Boo.  Sad finish.  I feel bad for the horse and I hope he is okay.  Our cable came back on before our company came.  Did you see all that UPS Branding at the Belmont? I think all the jockeys had UPS on their jackets.  "What did Brown Do For You" was everywhere. And so was NetJets. Go Google.

Corporate advertising was alive and kickin' today in New York City.

My Thoughts:   I'm not sure who the real winners and losers were. There was so much expected out of this horse that it was almost too much for it to bear.  Fortunately, the jockey was smart enough to know that it wasn't theirs to win and just pulled up in the end.  The big story  (not surprisingly) was much more about how Big Brown DIDN'T win...and not much about the fact that DaTara won.  Sounds like another contest that just ended recently (Democratic nomination).  Ah...contests!  It's time to move on.

Mac or PC - My Debate and Who Won

I didn't think it would come to this - but today I finally crossed over- into a new frontier. Dear Microsoft...how do  did I love thee. A lot, to be truthful.  But alas ~ Vista was quite difficult in this profession (graphics, graphics, graphics), and after much consideration and internal turmoil (okay, slight trauma) input from others (about six referrals) and with the future in mind (moving on).. I am entering Mac's World.

My new MacBook Pro. I feel like I'm in a totally different country. I feel like I'm reborn..and a whole life and years of work are on another machine. The tried and true 4 year old PC running Windows XP, still functioning well (but on a desktop and needing frequent life resuscitation). Apprehensive? Yes. Optimistic - sort of. Time for Change? Perhaps.  Gosh, this feels foreign!

And to think, for mobile computing, I've had my Vista laptop for less than six months - but it had Boo graphics. Really BooHoo. And graphics, well - in this industry, GRAPHICS is big.

So, here's a toast to welcome my new pal, MacBeanie - my new laptop.  May you serve me well on the road.

Sometimes, It's Just That Simple!

Do you know Jott? Here I was, thinking how complicated life would be with all these technological inventions, gadgetries and gizmological wizardries. It's hard to keep up, specially when the teenagers have left home! And then, along comes something so simple.  In a forum today, I discovered JOTT . I'm not going to brag about it, because I might be the last person to know about this..but 'it's pretty darn amazing!'. But I'm so proud I discovered it before my kids did!

This company was apparently founded by two ex-Microsoft people. They probably were driving around one day with all these ideas and nowhere to write it down...except for their cell phone.  The whole idea is that you can send a message to yourself (you call a toll free number) or anyone you set up in your contacts list..and the voice message is immediately transcribed and sent to an email account!  So Simple!  Where have I been!!

They have other features, including reminders (asks for the date and time you want the reminder sent)...all this from your cell phone when you can't type, or in a rush (no pen/paper). 

For right now, the service is still in beta and  is free.  Hopefully, it'll stay free, just like GMail. 

I can see myself liking this a lot because I get really creative when I'm driving..and I don't enjoy texting.  You might find it useful for other applications in your life!  Ahhhh..now I wonder if I've just uncomplicated my life.  Stay tuned!
